Call for participants: Housing rights course for women
We are delighted to announce a six-week housing-rights programme for London-based organisations supporting women. The course will be delivered online, is free to participants, and is funded by the Trust for London.
These courses are aimed at people working or volunteering with women experiencing housing problems, or who may be at risk of becoming homeless. Participants may be community volunteers, members of a women’s collective, grassroots mutual aid organisation, or something similar.
The course aims to give participants the basic knowledge and skills needed to deal with key housing issues such as evictions, or poor housing conditions, with a focus on the specific needs of women. You do not need to know anything about housing law to apply. In fact, this introductory course is aimed at people with no formal legal training.
The course is free to attend, but spaces are limited. You must be able to attend all six sessions, as later sessions build upon the knowledge from earlier ones.
Please see below for dates and how to register your interest.
We will prioritise participants from community/grassroot organisations and people with lived experience. As the course has limited spaces we will accept a maximum of two participants per organisation.
The course will be run online every Wednesday evening for six weeks, and participants will be required to watch a 30 min video before each interactive session on:
- 3rd November – Benefits and housing (6-8pm)
- 10th November – Dealing with local authorities in the context of homelessness (6-8pm)
- 17th November – Living in temporary accommodation (6-8pm)
- 24th November – Basics of tenancies and other housing arrangements (6-8pm)
- 1st December – Dealing with disrepair in privately rented accommodation (6-8pm)
- 8th December – Dealing with section 21 evictions (6-8pm)
Please register your interest in attending this course by Sunday 17th October by filling in this form
We will let you know by Wednesday 20th October if you have secured a place.
The course will be delivered in English and participants should have at least conversational English to be able to benefit.
